Director of People and Culture recruitment

Welcome to the National Oceanography Centre

Thank you for your interest in the Director of People & Culture role at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). This is a pivotal time in our journey delivering world-leading marine science and marine research capacity for the nation and internationally .

Our purpose is to gain a deeper knowledge of the ocean to help every living thing on our planet flourish. As our work in understanding the world’s ocean becomes ever more vital, we are focused not only on scientific excellence but on building the organisational culture we need to reach our ambitious goals. A culture that is innovative and diverse, supportive and challenging.

As our new Director of People & Culture, you will be a key member of our Executive Leadership Team.  You will lead the transformation of our people function from a traditional operational service to a strategic partner, driving our long-term capability, sustainability, and impact as a globally respected, independent research organisation.  This is not a conventional HR leadership role. It is an opportunity to transform the way we think, lead, and collaborate. You will shape our culture, lead strategic change, and help us to become a truly inclusive, high-performing organisation.

The years ahead will see NOC implement an ambitious 2025–2035 vision and are seeking a visionary leader with a track record of delivering innovative people strategies and organisational change. Someone who understands how culture, data, wellbeing, and talent development come together to shape performance. Someone who can inspire our people, support our leaders, and ensure NOC is a place where everyone can thrive.

If that sounds like you, we hope you will be inspired by our mission and motivated to help shape our future.  If you share our passion for science, sustainability, and creating a healthier, more vibrant organisation, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Thank you for considering this opportunity.
